Obituary of Charles Russell Lane
Charles Russell Lane, age 58, of Culpeper, VA, passed away at UVA Medical Center Wednesday, January 2, 2013. Russell was born in Fauquier County to Ralph Russell Lane and Elsie May Lane October 28, 1954, and enjoyed a lifetime of working as a public servant. Russell has worked with the Culpeper Town Police Department, the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office and, currently, as Major with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. He was a generous friend, co-worker and mentor to many, and a loving and devoted husband for 38 years to his wife, Kathy. Surviving Russell is his wife, Kathern “Kathy” May Lane of Culpeper, mother, Elsie May Lane of Orange, formerly of Rixeyville, twin sister, Elizabeth Rhoades and her husband Mike of Rhoadesville, brothers; Joe Stanley and his wife Carolyn of Culpeper, Larry Stanley and his wife Bonnie of Waynesboro, Wayne Lane and his wife Cathy of Castleton, Ricky Lane of Upperville, Mike Lane and his wife Lisa of Spotsylvania, Carl Lane and his wife Cathy of Reva, many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Russell Lane. The family will receive friends Friday evening, January 4, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Culpeper Baptist Church, 318 S. West Street, Culpeper. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. in church with Rev. Sandy Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery with honors provided by the honor guards from Greene County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police. A repast will be held at Salem VFD, 8279 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, following committal services at Fairview Cemetery. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers are Sheriff Steve Smith, Cpt. Charles Swingler, Lt. David Roach, all of Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Chief Chris Jenkins and Officer Jason Smith of Culpeper Police Department, Chief Investigator Brad Sullivan of UMW Police, Deputy C.J. Johnson of Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and Bo Smith. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Culpeper Senior Center, Attn: Gladys Williams, 710 U.S. Avenue, Culpeper, VA 22701. .
