
Clyde Michael Hoffman, Jr, of Brightwood died Monday November 30, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 24, 1943 in Charlottesville. His parents were Clyde Michael (Bill) Hoffman Sr. and Edna Herring Hoffman.
Clyde is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Sheila Gulas Hoffman. His 3 daughters , Sherri Lynn Hoffman of Fluvanna, Marie Hoffman Weaver and husband Brandon of Madison Kathy Jean Howell and husband Kevin of Leon , his 2 sons, Cory Hoffman and wife Rachel of Madison, and Davin Hoffman and wife Jessica of Madison will also cherish their memories. He is also survived by his stepchildren and their families, Jayne Christian, Susan Harpine and Valerie Reid.
Clyde and Sheila also shared 17 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Additional survivors are his siblings Carolyn Hoffman and Burgess Settle of Charlottesville, Debbie Hoffman and husband Garvin Burgan of Sharpsburg, Md, Steve Hoffman of Manassas, Dolores Ryder and husband Mel of Orange ,and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Alicia Scearce Hoffman, and his son Jeffrey Andrew Hoffman.
A man of few words, Clyde retired in 2010 from VDOT after 49 years of service . He also did land surveying and for several years, had a produce stand in Brightwood, growing the best tomatoes around.
He was a hard working man who loved the outdoors, working as many as 4 gardens in the summer. He enjoyed Dallas Cowboys football, Nascar races and visits to Charlestown to play slots. The father of 2 Eagle Scouts, Clyde enjoyed the camping trips and being a committee member of Boy Scout Troop 45 of Madison.
Clyde enjoyed woodworking and was proud of the home he built. He also spent many hours in the sunshine accompanied by his best pal, Grits, a 130 pound black lab.
Most of all, this quiet, gentle man loved his family. They were a tremendous source of pride for him.
A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2015, 6:00 – 8:0 p.m. at Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Highway, Culpeper, Virginia. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 4, 2015 in the chapel of Clore-English Funeral Home with the Reverand Allen Follett officiating. Interment will be immediately following in the cemetery at Bethsaida United Methodist Church, Brightwood, Virginia.
Memorial Donations may be made to the Madison County Fire Department or the Madison County Volunteer Rescue Squad.
