Obituary of David "Sambo" Swanson Brown
David Swanson Brown, affectionately known as "Sambo", of Brandy Station, VA passed on peacefully to a better place on January 17, 2021 surrounded with love by his wife and children. He was born in Brandy Station on December 21, 1942 to his parents, Morgan William and Mary Elizabeth Brown. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Arline Elizabeth Estes Brown and children; Kelly Rae Brown Kern and husband, Troy; Christopher Morgan Brown and wife Ruth to cherish his life along with his grandchildren, Dalton Dawson, Taylor Dawson, Timothy Kern, Morgan Kern, Mariella Kern, Nathan Brown and Jacob Brown. He was the patriarch to five generations of the Brown Family with many nephews and nieces who celebrated 42 years of annual reunions in 2020 as a promise to David's mother. He will be greatly missed. He was a lifetime member of Brandy Station Volunteer Fire Department. ln his 58 years he held offices of Chief and every line office except Captain as well as President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and a member of Board of Directors. He retired from C & P Telephone Company where he began his career as a lineman and ended as a cable splicer technician. He loved working in his shop, working crossword puzzles, visiting his many friends in the community, especially at Rice Tire, Rosson-Troilo, KK Printing and Brandy Station Volunteer Fire Department. He loved the Lord, his family and his community. Viewing will be 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 22, 2021 at Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Highway, Culpeper, Virginia 22701. Graveside service with Pastor Kevin Walton officiating will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Fairview Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Wayne Corbin, Kenneth Handy, Bob Norris, Tony Troilo, Joe Bailey and Allen Green. The membership of Brandy Station Volunteer Fire Department will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Brandy Station Volunteer Fire Department, P. O. Box 19, Brandy Station, VA 22714.
