Mr. Murry was born in Wilmington, OH on December 15, 1934. He grew up in South Solon, Ohio and graduated from Stokes Local High School in 1952. Shortly thereafter, he began his career as a U.S. Government civilian employee, holding increasingly responsible positions as a Supply Systems Analyst at the Defense Electronics Supply Center in Dayton, OH and the Defense Fuel Supply Center in Alexandria, VA, and as a Supply Management Representative authorized to represent the Director at the Defense Logistics Agency headquarters in Alexandria, VA. In 1979, he received a Distinguished Career Award upon his retirement after 26 years of government service. He then worked for several Navy contractors in the Virginia Beach area as a program manager, systems analyst and office manager until he retired again in 1995. In 1996, he moved to Culpeper, where he was a member of Culpeper Presbyterian Church and the South Ridge Homeowners Association. Don was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, co-worker, friend, and neighbor who lived life to the fullest, loved to laugh and have fun, and leaves this earth with wonderful memories and no regrets.
In 1990, Don received a liver transplant due to the generosity of an anonymous donor and his family. This “gift of life” gave him an additional 22 years to enjoy his family, his friends, and his passions, and he and Marylou took full advantage of this miracle gift of life to travel extensively throughout the United States and to several foreign countries, to enjoy his children and grandchildren to the fullest, and to follow his favorite Washington sports teams, including the Redskins, Wizards, and Nationals, and also the UVA, Virginia Tech, and Ohio State football and basketball teams. The family encourages everyone reading this notice to become organ donors by so indicating on their drivers’ licenses and to share this decision with their closest loved ones.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Marylou P. Murry; two sons, Dr. Donald R. Murry, Jr. and his wife Patty of Powhatan, VA, and Daniel L. Murry and his wife Andrea of Troutville, VA; a daughter, Debbie M. Verbeck and her husband Donald of Rochester, MN and formerly of Culpeper; nine grandchildren, Kristen Murry and her fiancé Jason Gilbertson, Dr. Donald Murry III and his wife Jamie, Dr. Kenneth Murry and his fiancée Dr. Brittney Andress, Kevin Murry and his fiancé Jennifer Mabry, Donny and Erin Verbeck (formerly of Culpeper), and Olivia, Jadyn and Emily Murry; a brother, James E. Murry of Springfield, OH; two brothers-in-law, Donald G. Womacks of Springfield, OH, and James F. Pryne and his wife Jacque Young of Andover, NY; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and their families; two godchildren, Dr. Allison Buonocore of Hockessin, DE and Andrew Kolody of Wheaton, MD, and special friends Jill and Paul Kolody of Edgewater, MD and Denise, Paul, Jessica, and Paul Oskvarek of Burke, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard R. and Elsie M. Murry of South Solon, OH and a sister, S. JoAnne Womacks of Springfield, OH.
The family will receive visitors at Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Hwy. in Culpeper from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, February 24, 2012.
