Dot was born on June 2, 1930, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Christine Wright Pierson and Fred Pierson. She grew up in Orange, Virginia, attending Orange County schools.
Dot was an active member of the Culpeper United Methodist Church having joined the church in 1961. She was a member of the Alma Bragg Circle and kitchen committee for many years. She was known for her catering of weddings and community groups. Dot volunteered her time as a Pink Lady at the Culpeper Regional Hospital with over 10,000 hours, Culpeper Volunteer Fire Department serving banquets, Elkwood Homemakers Club and the 4-H Extension office. Dot loved to sew clothes for herself, her daughter and friends; reupholster furniture, cook, play cards with friends and never let grass grow under her feet. Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister, Melissa Butler, formerly of Louisa. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, William Russell Blankenbaker; a son, William Russell "Rusty" Blankenbaker Jr.; a daughter, Kimberly Graham; and two grandsons, Trey and Jonathan Graham. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012, in the sanctuary of Culpeper United Methodist Church, 1233 Oaklawn Drive, Culpeper, Virginia. Interment immediately following at Culpeper National Cemetery, new section on East Chandler Street. The family will receive friends for food and fellowship in the church fellowship hall after the services.
