Elizabeth Meredith “Betty” James, of Roanoke, VA, formerly of Culpeper, VA, passed away at her residence September 20, 2022 at the age of 78. Born August 25, 1944 in Norfolk, VA, Betty worked many years in the Culpeper banking business as the Executive Assistant to the Bank President. She was also a long standing member of the Culpeper United Methodist Church.
Betty was an inspiration to many as she persevered through many health challenges over the years and continued to be determined. Her great wit, occasional sarcastic comment, and fun-loving spirit served her well and made her many friends. Betty loved her family and pets and cherished time with her closest friends. You could often find Betty sitting by the pool or on the beach taking in the sun.
Surviving Betty are her children Frederick “Rick” James, Jr. and his wife Alicia of Vinton, VA, and her step children Dana Craun (Bruce) of Fishersville, VA and Larry James (Sandy) of Mount Sidney, VA.; grandchildren Lauren James Harris (Nathan) of Vinton, VA and Ryan James of Columbia, SC; Tiffany Kiser (John) of Buena Vista, VA and Stacey Warr (Aaron) of Stuarts Draft, VA and Jamie James (Rachael) of Steeles Tavern, VA; Haley James of Lexington, KY
Her parents, Gilbert and Frances Kilby Coiner and her beloved husband of more than 40 years, Frederick “Fred” James, Sr., precede her in death.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in Fairview Cemetery.
