Jerry was a resident of Mineral Virginia, where he enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley Davidson, and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Jerry was born in Watseka Illinois, and relocated with his family while in high school to Lancaster California in the 1950’s where he played in a band with legendary Frank Zappa. Jerry was a graduate of the University of Arizona, and received a master’s degree in applied oceanography from Scripps Institute in San Diego. He had recently retired as an aerospace engineer, after which he relocated to Lake Anna to be close to his daughter and grandchildren. He served proudly in the US Navy, and was a 32nd degree and York Rite Free Mason.
He is survived by his wife Joan Reutter, also of Lake Anna, his son Dr. Kirk Reutter of San Diego California, his daughter Dr. Juliana Miller and her husband Dr. Robert Miller and grandchildren Ronan and Jonas Miller of Haymarket Virginia, and his daughter Rebecca Reutter of Newport Beach California.
In Lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the DC Wings of Hope Melanoma Research Foundation. There will be a private memorial service at the Millers home for family and friends Saturday at 1pm. Quiet and strong, many lives were touched by Jerry Reutter. He was a true scholar and a gentleman, and had a profound love for family and God. Our loss is Heavens gain.
