Gloria Deane Dodd Thomas, of Culpeper Virginia, was carried by angels to meet her Lord and Savior in Heaven the morning of December 23, 2018. She resided at Our Father’s House Christian Home her remaining four years and was at home there when she peacefully entered God’s Kingdom. Her daughter, Cheri was with her providing comfort and keeping constant around the clock watch over Gloria during her final 12 days on earth. Gloria was surrounded by very loving and caring staff who had become part of her family.
Born January 3, 1928 at home in King George County, VA to George L. Dodd and Lillian M. Weant Dodd, Gloria was the seventh of eight children. She was married to Everett A. Thomas for 56 years. Mother of three, Gloria is survived by two daughters, Cheryl L. Clark and Cynthia D. Greene, three grandchildren, Christian Greene, Chase Greene, and Yardley Cavanaugh, six great grandchildren, and one sister. She was predeceased by her husband, Everett A. Thomas, their infant son Everett A. Thomas, Jr., and her granddaughter Amber Greene McNabb.
Gloria was a devout Christian and loved the Lord her entire life. She greatly loved her husband, children, and grandchildren with her whole heart and was a very caring and giving person. She retired in 1979 from Apple Federal Credit Union in Fairfax, Virginia as a Branch Manager and with Everett moved to Culpeper, VA. She was a proud member of the Eastern Stars, an active member of the Culpeper United Methodist Church, volunteered as a Pink Lady for the Culpeper Memorial Hospital, and belonged to a local homemaker’s club. She was an avid gardener of flowers and vegetables and spent many summer days each year in her canning kitchen.
Gloria loved cooking and baking for family and friends. One of her fondest memories was watching her small grandchildren arrive each Thanksgiving Day and while entering through the back porch, they would secretly peak under the covers of the numerous pies and deserts stored on the table, to be sure Grandma had made their favorite. Then they would laugh and smile with delight and come into the house!
As a child, she grew up on a working farm, she loved animals which carried throughout her life and she always had a beloved dog. Blessed with a beautiful singing voice an elementary school teacher would drive her and a friend to Fredericksburg, VA to sing on the radio on Saturdays until fuel shortages due to WWII prevented the trips. In high school she was an avid and very competitive basketball player and didn’t hesitate to describe some of her “tripping techniques”. Gloria loved people, her retirement days, and her gorgeous mountain view from her Culpeper home.
Gloria will always be loved and greatly missed by her family and friends. Her Spirit will live on and May She Rest in Peace surrounded by God’s Glory that she has found in Heaven.
