Harold David Fowler, 79, of Culpeper, passed on Wednesday, October 23, 2013. He was born August 31, 1934, in Argyle, New York to David W. Fowler and Hazel B. Morehouse Fowler. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Barbara J. Fowler of Culpeper, Virginia, and six children: Callista McGinley (husband John), Linda Fowler-Jones (husband G.Robert), Theresa Watson (husband David), David (wife Traci), Susan (husband Greg), and Leslie (husband David), and 22 grandchildren. He is also survived by five sisters: Shirley Clark of Glens Falls, New York; Beverly Saville of Fort Edward, New York; Mabel McNeil of Salem, New York; Freda Roberts of Granville, New York; and Bea Duval of Glens Falls, New York and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. After graduating from Hartford High School in 1952, Harold entered the United States Air Force in October of that year. While serving in Greenville, South Carolina, he met his future wife. After they married in 1956, he promised that he would take her to see the world. Harold kept his promise by working for the U.S. Government. He was stationed in seven different countries including Tel Aviv, Israel; Nicosia, Cyprus; Stockholm, Sweden; Rabat, Morocco; La Paz, Bolivia; Monrovia, Liberia; and Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines. Three of his six children were born overseas. Always an avid outdoorsman, Harold enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and driving his horses. In his later years he reignited his passion for camping. In the company of his wife Barbara, he towed his camper as far north as Maine and to the Carolina’s in the south. Harold was notorious for his quick wit and teasing nature. He enjoyed watching his two favorite football teams, the Eastern View Cyclones and the Washington Redskins. Harold was good as building things as demonstrated by building his home and a four season gazebo of which he was most proud. To his family, he was known as “Mr. Fix It”.
