James Earnest Davenport

James “Jim” Earnest Davenport, age 94, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022 in Culpeper, VA. He was born July 2, 1927 in Dover, NJ. He married Nancy Carol Davenport, née Lindeberg in 1952 and had four children – Catherine Mary (1952-) (Richard), Nancy Carol (1954-) (Hugo), James Howard (1955 – 2014) (Elizabeth) and Marylynn (1964-) (Michael). Jim and Nancy have twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. James also had six brothers and sisters – Mary, Helen, Clara, Fred, Joseph and Andrew – all who looked up to James as a role model and inspiration in life.
Jim joined the United States Merchant Marine in 1944 and then joined the United States Marine Corps in 1945 serving until 1956. He was stationed in Guam and Saipan during the end of World War II and then at Quantico Marine Corps Base at the Officer Candidates School before serving as a USMC Reservist in NJ, attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant. After his military service, Jim worked for many years for Howmet Aerospace as a Quality Control Inspector. Nancy and Jim retired to Florida in 1989 and lived there until moving to The Culpeper Senior Living Community in Culpeper, VA in 2021.
Jim was a beloved father, grandfather and brother to his entire family. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a generous heart. He will be remembered lovingly by his wife, family and friends and sorely missed.
