

Jean was born on July 11, 1929 in Illinois. She graduated from Washington and Lee High School in Arlington, VA and attended James Madison College. She taught at Louise Archer Elementary School in Vienna, VA and worked at The Early Learning Centers in Culpeper and Madison, VA. Jean faithfully attended Madison Presbyterian Church. Jean loved the out of doors, working in her garden, and watching birds. She was active in the theater in her younger days and often opened her home to people in need.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her adoring children, Mark Wilkie of Warner Robins, Georgia; Michael Wilkie of Jeffersonton, VA; Robin Engle of Centerville, GA; and Rebecca Helme of Madison, VA; her grandchildren, Matthew Engle, Geoffrey Engle, Jonathan Troiano, Ian Wilkie, Kimberly Helme, and Jenna Helme; great-grandchildren, Joshua Engle, Lily Engle, and Keira Troiano; her sisters Barbara Duley and Billie White; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will hold a private memorial ceremony in the spring. They request that donations be given to the Alzheimer’s Association at 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, VA 22901 or at alz.org.
