family by her side.
Born on April 17th, 1951, in Buffalo, New York, Leanne attended Kenmore East Senior
High School and graduated Summa Cum Laude from SUNY at Buffalo in just three
years. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest academic honor society.
Leanne continued her studies to receive her Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology.
Leanne will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 49 years, Robert; children, Evan
(Kriss), Morgan, Meryl (Bion) Ludwig, and Emmett; her four grandchildren; and her
sisters Pamela (David) Simmons, Barbara (David) Burton and her brother, the late
Michael Humes. She is also survived by many devoted nieces, nephews and friends.
Leanne was an avid cyclist who also enjoyed gardening and daily walks with her
friends. She was an incredible host who loved spending time in the kitchen creating
delicious meals and baking for her friends and family. Leanne was immensely involved
in her children's lives, as well as several community organizations in Culpeper. She
was an original member on the board of Yowell Meadow Park. She served as the
President of the Culpeper Literacy Foundation for many years, where she dedicated
much of her time and energy to teaching people in the community how to read and
write.
The family will be doing a private gathering for a Celebration of Life. In lieu of sending
flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Georgetown University Medical
Center Memory Disorders Program, https://memory.georgetown.edu/ or the Culpeper
Literacy Foundation.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.clore-english.com for the Rutkowski family.
