Born in Freeland, Pennsylvania August 3, 1932 to August and Linnie Drasher Lukac, her family moved to Washington, D. C. as World War II began. She graduated from Calvin Coolidge High School and Marjorie Webster Junior College in the District where she was a talented fine arts student, majoring in painting.
Luke met her husband Dr. Charles W. “Buddy” Goldsborough when he was stationed as a Navy Hospital Corpsman at Bethesda Naval Hospital.
They had five children and five grandchildren in their sixty years of marriage: Capt. C. Neal Goldsborough, USN, retired, (Carol) of Charlottesville, and son Charles W. “Cliff” Goldsborough (Brittany and daughters Beatrice and Bernadette) of Richmond; Lynne Goldsborough Yowell (Carty) of Etlan; John C. Goldsborough (Elizabeth) of Culpeper; Steven R. Goldsborough (Sherry and son Ian and daughter Carly Lustrino) of Virginia Beach; and R. Lee Goldsborough of Madison County (Cheryl and son Evan and daughter Amelia).
At age thirty-nine she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and spent her remaining years living life to the fullest. She was an active supporter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and counselled others who suffered from the disease; served as a member of the Culpeper County Planning Commission; was a Den Mother to the Cub Scout Pack; was a chorister at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church for decades; worked in the 1960’s to establish the first school program for special needs children in Culpeper; and worked in the office of her husband’s optometric practice for many years.
Graveside services will be held in the Culpeper Masonic Cemetery, 1012 North Main Street, Culpeper at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 27, 2023, followed by a luncheon reception in the Parish Hall of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
