Mary "Peggy" Via Hitt

Peggy Dodson Via Hitt, nee Mary Alice, 84 years old of Culpeper, Virginia passed peacefully on Saturday, November 17, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Mary Alice’s aunt gave her the name Peggy when she was born on December 31, 1933 in Fieldale, Virginia. She was born to the late Oker Elmer Dodson and Lavinia Pearl Turner Dodson.
Peggy graduated from John D. Bassett High School in 1952. She tuned radios and televisions at Ben Dix Manufacturer in Baltimore. In 1955, she returned to Bassett to help her father in his restaurant. After her marriage to the late William Via, they moved to St. Louis, Missouri. She and her husband were blessed with daughters, Sherry Lynn Thornhill (Jerry), Susan Ann Hume (Donald), Santa Marie, “Sandy,” Via (Gail Morris) and Cathy Ann Bascino Via. They returned to Fieldale, Virginia in 1963. In 1970, Peggy and her girls moved to Culpeper where Peggy worked at Culpeper Cleaners, Jolly Jeff’s/ Jenner’s and Country Café Restaurants for 36 years
Peggy is survived by her four daughters, and her step-daughter, Margarite Hitt, all of Culpeper; her brother Glenn Dodson of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, her grandsons Matthew Corbin and Patrick Timmons; her great-grandchildren Courtney Berry, Lauren Berry, McKaylah Brown, Ryleigh Brown, Hayden Brown, and Raegan Brown; two nieces, Kim P. Hicks (Steve) of Culpeper, Kelly A. Pickerel of Richmond, numerous nephews, and their families.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her second husband, Eugene Hitt and her siblings, Christine Wilson (Joel), Mabel Nester (J.D.), Norman Dodson (Thelma), Dottie Pickerel Elliott (Cecil), infant brothers John Steven Dodson, and James Noble Dodson. She was also preceded in death by her grandsons, Steven Berry, Scott Berry and Shawn Berry, by her great-grandson, David Austin Corbin, her sons-in-law David Corbin and Robert Berry and her very special fur babies, Sage, Ralph and Callie.

Funeral services will be held in the Culpeper United Methodist Church, Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 11:00a.m with Rev. Randy Orndorff officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends, Friday, November 23, 2014 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Highway,, Culpeper, VA 22701
