She was born in Athol, Massachusetts, to her parents Claude and Corinne Wright, the third of five children.
Nona was a natural leader, excelling in school, and became the first female class president of her senior class. She completed her diploma nurses training at St Vincents Hospital Nursing School and was awarded student nurse of the year for all of Massachusetts.
Nona married her high school sweetheart, Peter Goodfield, and moved away from the homeplace, first to Chicago and then finally settling in Virginia to raise their family.
She worked at many different hospitals in her long nursing career, well known for her calm leadership, excellent nursing skills and warm regard for both her patients and coworkers. She left the hospital setting to manage her husband’s chiropractic office with energetic efficiency.
Nona was an avid Red Sox fan, greatly enjoyed visiting Nags Head yearly, and was the hostess of all the family birthdays and holiday gatherings. She loved Christmas, the intersection of family and faith, and the cheerful beauty of her many Christmas lights. She was a committed Christian, and served the Lord faithfully with her different church families through the years.
Her greatest passion in life was her family. Her constant love and attention nurtured her loved ones through the many challenges of life. She was quick to listen and offer thoughtful help. Her three daughters spoke with her almost daily.
The last ten years of her life were marked by significant health issues. Her characteristic faith and patience were unshakeable. Her loving husband and daughters were by her side every day.
Nona is survived by her husband of 62 years, Peter, her three daughters, Jennifer (Tim), Kathye (Rodney), and Teri (Gary) and her sister, Claudia Euvrard. She also leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren: Tori (Julian), Taylor, Zach (Katie), Chance, Faith, Kaitlyn, and Ryan (Geneva) as well as two precious great grandchildren, Yuna and Kai.
Nona’s legacy of love and faithfulness will continue to live on through her family and all whose lives she touched.
