Robert Dale Gill, 81, was born January 14, 1934 in Maud, Oklahoma and died September 19, 2015. Bob lived in Oklahoma during the Dust Bowl years. His mother died when he was about 2 years old of dust pneumonia. Bob’s father remarried soon thereafter.
One of Bob’s first jobs was as a shooting instructor and over the years he won many trophies at shooting competitions. Bob began serving his country by joining the U.S. Army, however he spent his career working for the U.S. Navy, most of which was spent as an investigator for N.C.I.S. In Culpeper, Bob worked part-time as a realtor and also doing background checks for the government.
He fell in love with and married the great love of his life, Nancy Flagg Gill, of Harrisonburg, VA. Bob was completely devoted to Nancy all the years of their life together. They raised their son, Andy, in the Culpeper area.
Bob’s two main hobbies were fly fishing and photography. Bob loved Culpeper, and loved using his photographic skills filming Chamber of Commerce events, filming the Powell Wellness Center events, Camp Fantastic for young cancer patients, AirFest events and especially Wounded Warrior’s Healing Waters fly fishing events.
Bob suffered from esophageal cancer at the end of his life, but his faith in a loving God was strong. He enjoyed his many visits with Pastor Brad Hales and spoke often of his joy at being reunited with Nancy.
Bob had a generous nature and loved volunteering his photographic skills. He will be missed by many. Bob was a character!
