

Ruby Winters Baker lost her 2-year battle with cancer on Friday, December 30th. She passed peacefully with loved ones near. Ruby grew up in West Virginia and moved to Maryland in the late 1950’s after marrying the late Jackson L. Baker. She had 3-sons and then moved with her family to Culpeper, VA in 1969. She lived in Culpeper the rest of her life and made many wonderful friends. She loved to clean, do yard work and gardening, and cook meals for her family. She will be dearly missed. A sincere thank you goes out to the nurses and staff at Dogwood Village Nursing Home. Ruby is survived by her 3-sons, Rickey William Baker of Myrtle Beach, SC, Michael Ray Baker of Culpeper, VA, and Kevin Orion Baker of Culpeper, VA, Grandson’s Austin Scott Baker of Ontario, CA, Evan William Baker of Fredericksburg, VA, Matthew Jordon Baker of Myrtle Beach, SC, Griffin Taylor Baker of Culpeper, VA, Granddaughter Raegan Amanda Baker of Culpeper, VA, Great Grandson William Bull Baker of Fredericksburg, VA, and daughter-in-law’s Kellie Updike Baker of Culpeper, VA and Alicia Baker of Myrtle Beach, SC. Ruby’s 3 surviving sisters are Virginia Arbogast of Elkins, WV, Gaitha Skidmore of Hubbard, OH, and Jean Simon of Youngstown, OH, and brother Jennings Leary of Warsaw, OH. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband Jackson L. Baker, sisters Mayme Swecker, Lucy Reins, and Mary Krisher, and one brother Howard Leary. A celebration of life will be held in the Fellowship Hall at Culpeper United Methodist Church on Thursday, January 12th at 6pm.
