Ed Hutson, 78 , of Los Angeles, California passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2015. Ed was born December 7, 1936 in San Francisco. His parents were Clarence D. Hutson and Eileen Sedgwick Hutson. He was an employee of Fox Studios in Los Angeles for more than 50 years and retained many friends there after retirement. The family has a history of Vaudeville and his mother, Eileen Sedgwick, was a silent screen actress. As children, Ed and his sister played on the Fox lot. He attended parish schools in Beverly Hills and West Los Angeles. Upon high school graduation Ed worked briefly as a waiter. Because Ed’s father was a location scout for Fox Studios and his uncle was a director there, Ed wanted to work there, too. Soon he landed a job in the mail room at Fox and worked his way up to supervisor of the art department. His careful custodianship of original building plans and thousands of set stills helped retain the history of the studio. He was both knowledgeable and helpful to many art directors over the years. Ed was a tall, quiet man who didn’t rush; he had an infectious laugh to go with his droll sense of humor. He always dressed well and was a great story teller. Ed shared many stories of growing up among the Hollywood elite; many were neighbors when he lived in Beverly Hills or friends of the family. He loved to eat a good meal at a nice restaurant. The studio Commissary set aside a special table for him with his own nameplate. He lunched there almost every day and continued to do so every other week after retirement. His long term care giver, Arnold, made it possible for him to have an active quality of life despite his compromised health after retirement. Ed’s generosity was enjoyed by many friends who in turn enjoyed his company. Ed is survived by his brother in law Chrys Chrys of San Francisco, nephew Royce Chrys of Oakland, nieces Cassandra Teegarden of Newberg, OR , Victoria Chrys of Stockton, CA and Nicole Moe of San Mateo, CA plus great nephew Keaton Moe and great nieces Jessica Moe , Natalie Teegarden , Alexandra Chrys, and Marina Chrys and many friends who considered him part of their families. His sister, Mary Eileen Hutson, pre-deceased him. Services will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California. Viewing is scheduled for Wednesday May 6 from 5 – 7 pm with rosary to be said at 6:30. The funeral and mass will be held Thursday May 7 at 11 am. Interment will immediately follow services. A reception is to be held after burial from about 2 – 4 pm in the reception hall at Holy Cross. Memorial donations in Ed’s name may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
