Elfriede was a reader of good European novels, lover and caregiver of words and language(s). She was a loving wife devoted to Horst Mendershausen and his peregrinations for 67 years. Loving mother to two sons. Instructive,loyal and generous grandmother,completely unfathomable to her great grandchildren! Elfriede was also a talented cook,empatheic listener, wise and observant teacher,early Vermont teacher of the severely handicapped. She was a German refugee to Geneva where she studied with Piaget,only to later on serve as a staunch little league mom in North Bennington,Vermont.
In Bennington ,she also was active in the community chorus, the March of Dimes and even presided a while over the League of Women Voters in the early 1950's. Thence to Santa Monica California where she earned MA in education at UCLA, became a counselor, traveled widely and further deployd her ability to make, nurture and enjoy deep lasting friendships.
Predeceased by her beloved Horst in 2003,she is survived by her sons Phillip(Dallas,TX) and Ralph(Mariposa,CA), and three grandchildren: Julia(Seattle,WA), Jenny(Dallas,TX), and Eric (Dallas,TX). Her great grandchildren, Jack (4) and Lilly (2) are in Seattle.
