Janet Liston Nelson
April 15, 1948 – September 20, 2019
On Friday morning, September 20th, 2019, our mom, Janet Nelson passed away peacefully after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia. We are incredibly sad that she’s gone, but relieved that her suffering is finally over.
We will always remember her fierce loyalty to family and undying love for our dad Roger, our wives Aimee and Beth and her three grandchildren: Emily, Kaylee and Sam. Dad and mom were married for forty-six years and showed us a perfect example of what true love is. Never far from each other's sides, they kissed every day, still held hands and loved each other deeply to the last. And even during some of her sickest moments, she still thought about Dad's well-being, concerned that he'd be alright. Her loving heart still strong enough to puncture the heavy veil of her diseases.
Mom was also more than a wife and mother. She was a teacher in work and in life, not just for our family, but also for countless children in her forty year career as an educator. Growing up, we knew that she was a teacher inside the classroom and outside. Her goal was to teach us to be honest, to think and to find humor. She taught us to be good people, strong and caring partners to our wives and to never forget empathy for others.
Blessed with many gifts, mom was an especially good cook and baker. Every birthday as we grew up, we could expect a personalized birthday cake. Each of our cakes were made with rich detail, decorated by hand and could have easily competed on one of the baking shows we watch today. Her homemade "scrabble" trail mix made mouths water. And many of her recipes were so tasty that we now make mom's dinners for our own kids today.
To Mom, family was everything. Her life and her love. Traditions an integral part of her family circle. The holidays were her favorite time for those traditions. Every year, without fail, she'd put out Halloween pumpkins, host a Norman Rockwell Thanksgiving and smile at Fourth of July fireworks. But if you knew mom, then you also knew Christmas was her favorite time of year. Each year, she made over a dozen different types of Christmas cookies, decorated the house to every corner and without fail, watched the movie "White Christmas". We still remember the joy on her face one Centerville Christmas morning when the snow had fallen and she had her own white Christmas outside the windows.
Mostly we will miss her quick wit and laughter. We'll miss her companionship. And we'll miss the moments we shared sometimes saying nothing at all just sitting together watching TV. A favorite pastime of hers, we’ll miss watching reruns of "I Love Lucy", "Perry Mason", "Murder She Wrote" and "The Lone Ranger". We’ll never be able to watch "Die Hard", here favorite movie, without thinking of her.
She was the best mom we could have ever hoped for and we miss her terribly.
We will always love you...
Love, Andy and Ryan Nelson

Jan will be missed by Marilynn and George Borchers, and by Aimee our daughter, and granddaughters Emily and Kaylee who were, as we, so very fortunate to have known her ... mindful of the time she opened the path to El Marino ... and so also will our son Doug, and his children remember her affectionately ...
God Bless You Jan Nelson ... Please Rest in Peace!
