2021 in Los Angeles, California after a brave battle with cancer.
Jeremy was born in Ephrata, Pennsylvania on September 4th, 1981. He
graduated from Ephrata High School and pursued his passion for music, beginning his
classical guitar studies with the late Ernesto Tamayo at the Pennsylvania Academy of
Music. In 2004, he earned his Bachelor of Music degree in guitar performance (Magna
Cum Laude), where he studied with Pablo Cohen, and received both the Ford Music
Scholarship and the E. P. Johnson Award. While at Ithaca College, Jeremy spent a
semester abroad in London studying with Timothy Walker at the Royal Academy of
Music.
He then earned his Master of Music degree at Yale University under the
instruction of Benjamin Verdery. At Yale, Jeremy was awarded the George Lauder
Greenway Fellowship and the Eliot Fisk prize. Jeremy completed his Doctor of Musical
Arts (DMA) degree at Indiana University under the instruction of Ernesto Bitetti. He also
studied vihuela and lute tablature under Nigel North, earning a minor in early music. It
was while he was at IU that he met his future wife, Megan.
Jeremy was employed as a guitar teacher at Coronado High School in
Henderson, Nevada. Previously, he was adjunct instructor of guitar at Saint Joseph's
University, Eastern University, and University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. While
living in Pennsylvania, he earned a Jazz Certificate from the Berklee College of Music.
He also taught at Ithaca College, Yale University, and Indiana University. He was one of
the founding members of the Lancaster County Classical Guitar Society.
In every place he lived, Jeremy played in musical groups of all types and genres,
including the Clayton Anderson Band (country-rock) in Bloomington, IN, the Diesel
Lounge Boys (bluegrass) in New Haven, CT, and the Las Vegas Guitar Ensemble
(classical guitar trio) in Las Vegas, NV. He found great joy making music with others,
and was a natural on the stage.
Jeremy’s passions stretched beyond his musical career and interests. Jeremy
was a former member of Boy Scout Troop 70 where he attained the rank of Eagle
Scout. He loved hiking in Red Rock Canyon near his Las Vegas home, and recently
found a love for off-roading - he spent a lot of time riding his motorcycles and Jeep
Wrangler in the Nevada desert. He was an accomplished handyman, and was
responsible for many home improvement projects in both his Philadelphia and Las
Vegas houses. He was a hot sauce connoisseur, and loved smoking ribs for however
many neighbors and friends could fit in his home. Most of all, he loved being a dad to
his son, Leo (born in April 2020). Despite his illness, he and his little family went on mini
adventures throughout the region, including camping trips and weekends at Lake
Havasu.
Jeremy was a member of New Song Lutheran Church in Henderson, Nevada,
where he was the praise band leader and poured out his heart playing guitar, praising
the Lord in song. Heaven is now alive with his music.
Jeremy was the loving husband of Megan (McCue) Harting, father of their
beloved son, Leo Robert Harting, and dog dad to a French Bulldog/Boston Terrier mix,
Oliver.
He is survived by his loving parents, Timothy and Greta (Wolf) Harting and twin
brother, Jason Harting, husband of Hoai Harting.
Also surviving are uncles Erik (Georgenne Snavely) Wolf, Scott (Trudy Savey)
Harting, aunt Betsy (Jay Rauch) Harting, father-in-law Patrick McCue, and
mother-in-law Catherine McCue.
A celebration of life is planned for June 11th at 11:00am at New Song Lutheran
Church in Henderson, Nevada. Reception/music festival to follow.
