Laurence Winn

Laurence "Larry" Winn passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 23rd at the age of 92 at his home in Culver City with family by his side. Larry was born in Reading Massachusetts to Frederic Winn of Dover N.H and Ethlene Laurinda Demont of Ashby, MA. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Beverly Winn Mentus of North Reading, MA and his loving wife of 33 years Mary Frances Theresa Winn ("Terry") of Glasgow, Scotland.

Larry joined the U.S. Army immediately after high school and was transferred to the Army Air Corp where he earned his wings, became a pilot and rose to rank of Lieutenant. He eventually left the service to start a family and new career. Larry became an exceptional salesman in the audio/sound system field for many years and also owned his own business in Rancho Park, CA. for several years. After retirement Larry worked alongside his wife Terry at the parish of St. Gerard Majella assisting in office affairs. After Terry's passing in 1998 Larry continued on in his work with the church and took great pride in helping both the parish itself and especially Father Martin Slaughter. In 2009 Larry retired again, leaving St. Gerards after a fulfilling 20 years of work with the parish where he made many lifelong friends.

Larry spent his remaining years doing the things he loved most...reading the paper, watching golf, enjoying Happy Hour at Whiskey Red's (previously Shanghi Red's) and most importantly reveling in the family who surrounded him and keeping up with all the grandchildren. His happiest moments were having a house full of children, grandchildren and close friends. His dry wit, kindness, humbleness and humor never left him...ever. He was a gentleman and even more so a gentle man who will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

Larry is survived by his four children: Ron Winn and his wife Lana Winn of Arlington, TX., his daughter Michele Winn (Hoyle) and her fiance Dennis Flaherty of Culver City, his son Michael Winn and his wife Joann Winn of Los Angeles, CA, his son Chris Winn and his wife Patrice Winn of Los Angeles, CA. Larry is also survived by his 8 grandchildren: Heidi Reitan, Heather Winn, Matthew Winn, Haley Winn, Chris Hoyle, Daniel Winn, Aidan Winn and Ruby Winn as well as 1 great grandchild Jacob Reitan. Larry is also survived by his niece Janet Mentus Harrison and her husband Scott Harrison of North Reading, MA and by his two nephews William Mentus and his wife Kathy Mentus of West Hartford, CT and Brian Mentus and his wife Tina Mentus of Derry N.H.

Services will be held Monday November 3rd at 11:00am at St. Gerard Majella Church followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers any donations be made to St. Gerard Majella Church located at 4439 Inglewood Bl, Los Angeles, Ca 90066.
