

Lisa Susanne Rawles was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on May 12, 1961 and passed away peacefully at the age of 53 on March 6, 2015 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Lisa moved to California at age of 6 months and attended Inglewood and Los Angeles public schools, graduating from Westchester High School. She attended UC Santa Barbara and graduated from California State University Dominguez Hills with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1984. She began her teaching career at Tender Care Child Development Center in Inglewood, teaching its first preschool graduating class. In 1985, Lisa joined the Los Angeles Unified School District as a kindergarten teacher at Woodcrest Elementary School where she stayed until 1993. She then moved to Baldwin Hills Elementary School and remained there for the next 22 years until her passing, teaching kindergarten and more recently pre-kindergarten. A beloved daughter, wife, mother and teacher, she will be truly missed by all who knew her and all of her many students in whom she instilled knowledge, compassion, fundamental values and the inspiration to excel. Lisa is survived by her husband Michael, children Gabrielle, Erica and Brian, mother Beverly Glenn, aunts Eunice Mitchell and Hazelene Hines, and in-laws, many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her infant son Manfred Michael and father William R. Black.
