Mi’chal Martin was born February 28, 1961 in Los Angeles, California to Findes & Edna Martin. She is the eldest of three children. The name Mi’chal derives from the Holy Bible, it was King Saul’s daughter’s name, who was King David’s first wife. The name Mi’chal is Hebrew, which means “Who Is Like God.”
One Sunday night during a revival service at 3 in 1 Church of God in Christ (COGIC) in Los Angeles, CA, Mi’chal was saved at the tender age of 17 yrs. The late Prophet Walker called on her from where she was sitting, prophesied to her and laid hands upon her head, she was slain in the spirit. When she came forth she was speaking in tongues—she was instantly filled with the Holy Ghost.
Mi’chal worked feverishly in the church as a young saint of God. She began her ministry by preaching and prophesying at an early age in her late uncle’s church, Pastor David E. Freeman of 3 in 1 COGIC. She was very involved in the church functions and held several roles: Youth Choir Director, Pastor’s Aide, back-up organist and wherever else her talent was requested.
Later in life, Mi’chal assisted and worked closely with the profound late Bishop B.R. Benbow at 88th Street Temple COGIC. She was the local and jurisdictional public relations contact who managed the church calendars, and was the editor & publisher of the church first newsletter, “The Missionary Reporter.” However, the late Bishop Benbow was directed by the Lord to change the name to “The Church Reporter.”
Mi’chal revered the late Bishop Benbow as the great man of God he was! She worked closely beside the late Bishop and was able to fulfill his heart’s desire by operating his long-awaited bookstore. However, her greatest accomplishment that she prided herself with was, “The Port Chicago Day” event regarding the Freddie Meeks and the late Bishop Benbow story of the historical blast that killed over 300 men in the 1940’s in San Francisco, CA, and how God spared the late Bishop’s life. She coordinated a news conference and 7 news stations were invited to televise the event. She was extremely proud of the event’s success—gratified in knowing the late Bishop was worthy of every accolade.
On the morning of Sunday, July 7, 2019, Missionary Mi’chal Martin departed this life to meet her maker. She was preceded in death by her father, Elder Findes Martin. Subsequent to Michal’s passing, her Mom, Evangelist Edna Martin also departed to meet our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, July 22, 2019. Mi’chal greatly loved her Mom with every part of her being that she became so heartbroken to learn that her Mom would soon depart this life—it was simply too much to bear.
She leaves behind her children: Chemese Brown & David Killian; Siblings: Michael, Mark & Melynda (Lynda); Brother-in-Law, Steve Small; Nieces & Nephews: Deandre, LaJohn, Davion, Michael Jr., Matthew, Merrell, Narcisse, Lonnako Jr., & Ivana; Great Nephew: Ezra Coleman. She also leaves behind a host of cousins: Yvette, Kenyah, Stephen, Davetta (Angel), Demetrius, Dale, Dondia, Janelle; Aunts & Uncles: Ruth, Mary, Linzie, Jeanele, Connie Mae, Brett, Stacie & Stevie, and many other loving family members, friends, and church family.
