Sylvester Alfred Oglesby was born on October 11, 1943 in Chicago, IL to S.P. Oglesby and Georgia Oglesby (Branch). He honorably served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Sylvester trained at Washburne Trade School in Chicago, IL which was known as “The Harvard of Trade Schools” eventually becoming certified as an apprenticed union painter. He worked construction for over 40 years.
Sylvester is survived by his children, Sylvia L. Davis of Calumet City, IL; Marcus Oglesby of Andover, MN and Sylangia Oglesby of Houston, TX; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; twin brother, George Oglesby and sisters, Lonzola Ware-Johnson, Rinda Oglesby-Mitchell and Theresa Oglesby-Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
On Monday, December 28, 2020 Sylvester Alfred Oglesby made his transition into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior joining his many loved ones that preceded him in death - his parents, S.P. Oglesby and Georgia Oglesby (Branch); brothers, Robert Ware and Samuel Ware and sisters, Mattie White and Rosetta Ware-Medlock.
He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL
