Tommy George Montgomery passed away peacefully on the morning of November 12, 2015. He was born to (mother) Mary Coleman Montgomery and (father) Bennie Montgomery in Newton, Mississippi, on March 20th 1942. He grew up being the big brother to his baby sister Johnnie Pearl. He enjoyed a full childhood running the streets of Newton with his many cousins and friends. After graduating from Newton High School, he went to Coahoma Junior College and then transferred to Alcorn State University as both a math major and a football player. After leaving college, Tommy enlisted in the United States Army in 1960. He was a military police officer stationed in Korea where he had an opportunity to be in the security detail for the vice president of the United States, Hubert Humphrey, on his visit to Korea. After serving his term in the military, he moved to Long Beach, CA in 1966 with the hopes of securing a good job and starting a new life under the mentorship of his uncle, James Montgomery. He soon met and married Berita Ann Singleton on March 4, 1967; they bought a home together in Compton, CA. He worked in aerospace at McDonnell Douglas/Boeing where he retired after 42 years as a structural mechanic. He loved his job working on the C-17. He enjoyed going to Dockweiler Beach to watch the planes take off from LAX. He was so good at identifying planes that he could often tell you the type of plane flying over simply by the roar of the engine. He loved to go fishing and to feed the ducks and turtles at El Dorado Park. At home, you could find him working in his garden or watching whatever sport was on TV, as he was an avid fan of all sports for both men and women.
Tommy leaves behind his wife, Berita Ann Montgomery, and four children: Lynn Dianne Lindsey, Latonya N. Montgomery, Benjamin Montgomery, and Rosalyn Montgomery. He also leaves three grandchildren: Carlos Hillie, Anthony Moncrief, and Mia Montgomery and four great-grandchildren: Isaiah, Micaiah, Jordyn and Elisha Moncrief as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews that love him dearly.
Tommy “TG” Montgomery was a great man that was always there for anyone that needed him. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
Arrangements under the direction of Holy Cross Mortuary, Culver City, CA.
