Wendell Carlton Greer Sr.

.Wendell Carlton Greer, Sr. was born November 8, 1929 in Marshall, Texas to Jennie V. Moore and Howard L. Greer. In the mid-1940’s Jennie V. and her two sons, Howard L. Greer Jr. and Wendell C. Greer, Sr. relocated to Los Angeles, California, where Wendell Senior, graduated from Polytechnic High School (currently L.A. Trade Technical Community College) as a recognized Student Athlete in football, track and baseball.

As a graduate in 1948, he met Miss Barbara Jean Cartwright, then a sophomore at Thomas Jefferson High School. It was a destined union and upon Wendell’s induction into the Korean War, he proposed and they were married, resulting in a 64 year marriage celebrated on January 26th of every year. To this union came four phenomenal children, Cynthia Maureen Robinson, Wendell Carlton Jr., Eric Anthony and Marc Alexander Greer. The children absolutely became the focal points of their parents’ lives and each has successfully matriculated into a career of choice, each emulating their parents’ commitment to the public.

During his career, Wendell C. Greer Senior, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Upon returning to Los Angeles, he re-joined his wife and worked as a public servant for the City of Los Angeles. Never one to let grass grow under his feet, Wendell Senior graduated from Los Angeles Trade Technical College and proceeded to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Administration from the University of Redlands, in 1981. Always shrewd with numbers, Wendell Senior became an agent for the Internal Revenue Service until his retirement.

Ultimately, Wendell C. Greer Sr. and the former Barbara Jean Cartwright raised an amazing set of Greers. All Greers work diligently every day, all Greers take school seriously, all Greers are EXCELLENT parents who are committed to the success of their respective families, and all Greers walk in Senior’s footsteps. His training, no doubt came from his mother, Jennie V., who preceded her son in death, but who insured her legacy of family would endure.
