Bertie “Jean” (Rhyne) Ratchford, 87, of Bessemer City went to her heavenly home on Sunday September 12, 2021. Jean was a committed Christian and an active member of Antioch Lutheran Church in Dallas. She was a go-getter who loved to work. She sang in the choir and was active in the women’s group. She was a long time participant in the alter guild regularly attending to the linens used for church services. She was a secretary in the textile industry and the face of Burlington Industries in King’s Mountain. However, most of all she was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.
Jean is the daughter of the late Effie (Swink) Rhyne and Ralph Thomas Rhyne. Her daughter-in-law, Cindy Ratchford, also precedes her in death.
Left behind to cherish their memories of Jean are her husband of 70 years, Claude D. Ratchford, Sr. of the home and her two sons Claude D. Ratchford, Jr. and his wife Beth of Fort Mills, SC and David Ratchford of Gastonia. Jean leaves behind four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service and committal of her earthly remains will occur at 11:00 am on Thursday September 16, 2021 at Antioch Lutheran Church Cemetery, 330 Old NC 277 Loop Road, Dallas, NC. Reverend Andrew Weisner will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday September 15, 2021 at Carothers Dallas Funeral Home, 212 West Trade Street, Dallas, NC.
