Brandon "Matthew" Coon

Brandon “Matthew” Coon, 45, passed away prematurely on Thursday September 14, 2023. Matthew was a loving son, brother, father and friend. Matthew had a great sense of humor. He found his niche in life being a stay at home dad. He was a wonderful caretaker. He loved music and he played the guitar. He was into Rock Music and he especially enjoyed Alternative Rock. In many ways, Matthew was a big kid. He loved video games and roller coasters. He was an avid gamer and he especially enjoyed Dungeons and Dragons. As a younger person, he thoroughly enjoyed his time as a Boy Scout. He often reminisced about scouting. Many are going to miss Matthew. He leaves behind a big hole in the hearts of his family and friends.

Matthew was born June 21, 1978 in Fairfax County Virginia at Fort Belvior. He is the son of Gale (Langford) Lay and Charles “Charlie” Coon. He leave behind his daughters, Julianna Coon and Persephone Silvers and sons, Adam Coon and Nicholas Varner. He also leaves behind is partner Chrystal and their son Harrison Turner. His brother, Geoffrey G. Coon and his wife Amy are also survivors. Further, he leaves behind his best friend, Joshua Stroud.

A service in remembrance of Matthew, celebrating his life, will be held at 3:30 pm on Monday September 18, 2023 at Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service beginning at 2:30 pm.
