Dr. Donald Melton Hensley, 89, died peacefully on Friday July 5, 2019 at Courtland Terrace in Gastonia. Donald was born in Gaston County on October 24, 1929 to the late Ollie May (Angley) and John Marion Hensley. Professionally, Don was a professor of English Literature at Wagner College on Stanton Island, New York. Don earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master’s Degree from Wake Forest and his Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania. Don was a gentle man who always had a kind word for the many friends he made during his travels. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory and to carry on his legacy are his wife of 22 years, Yanhang Zhang-Hensley, step son, Allen Xi Li and sister and husband Rebecca (Hensley) Duffeck and Robert Duffeck.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M at the Dallas Funeral Home on Tuesday, July, 9th. A service from 3:00 P.M. to 4: 00 P.M. will follow the receiving of friends to celebrate the life of Donald Hensley. Pastor Scott Henson, from Dallas Baptist Church, will offer words of encouragement, comfort and hope to those who gather to remember Don.
