Edna Jordan Will

Edna Jordan Will, age 92, died peacefully at home on January 19, 2018. She was born on May 3, 1925 in Richburg, SC to the late Josiah and Annie Drennan Jordan.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Thomas Augustine Will and her brothers William Jordan and Henry Jordan.

Edna graduated from Winthrop University with a degree in Biology. After graduation, she taught biology at Gray High School in Winston Salem, NC. It was during her time here that she met her lifetime love, Tommy. They married and moved to Dallas, NC where Dr. Will began his medical practice. She had 7 children whom she loved and nurtured. She made each birthday a special occasion. She loved holidays and particularly enjoyed St Patrick’s Day and July 4th gatherings. Her house was always decorated to celebrate each holiday.

She was an excellent cook and a wonderful grandmother. She was happiest when she was surrounded by family. She loved God’s creation, and inspired us to love nature as well.

She was essential in helping her husband run his medical practice. She was active in the Dallas Women’s club where she served as vice president. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. One of her favorite activities was serving as a Girl Scout Leader. She was a volunteer at the Gaston County Museum for many years. She was also a member of the Dallas chapter of AARP, and on the board of the Gaston County Library. In 2004, she was awarded the William Gaston Award.

Edna enjoyed a lifelong friendship with Susie Childers whom she met while teaching in Winston Salem. When they got together, there was always much happiness and laughter.

Surviving is her sister, Jean Prothro; children: Dr. Melissa Will ( Robert Thompson), Thomas Will, Jr Laurie Will( Dave Forrest), Joe Will (Dawn), John Will (Debbie), Bill Will (Annie), Maggie Will (Brett Dupree); grandchildren: Jordan Trogdon, Jeremy Will, Meredith Sisson, Rebekah Will, Elyse Will, Thomas Will, Madeline Will, Joseph Will, Alec Will; great grandchildren: Molly Kate and Clara Trogdon.

The family wishes to thank special friends for their loving care of their mother: Mary Jane Sherrill, Angela Aycoth, Lisa Ogle, Ruth Patterson, Liz Carpenter and Andrea Phillips. They also express their gratitude to Hospice and Palliative Care of Lincoln County.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. A private burial will be at Cedar Shoals Cemetery in Richburg, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cedar Shoals Cemetery Fund, 5056 Richburg Road, Richburg, SC 29729 or Hospice and Palliative Care of Lincoln County, 900 Dontia Drive, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
