
He was born in North Wilkesboro, NC on January 13, 1930. He was the son of the late John Samuel and Ethel McNeil Steelman.
He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who loved softball, fishing and farming. He coached the Hardin Mfg, Skidmore Construction, and Howard’s Furniture (40 & over) teams throughout his many years of coaching softball.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Jerry and Sharon Steelman of Dallas, Judy Williams of Lincolnton, Becky and Gary Smith of Bessemer City, and Sandy and Ken Hayes of Gastonia;
Grandchildren and spouses: Dawn and Derek Rickus, Karen and Kevin Bolick, Angela and Scott Leviner, Tim and Kim Steelman, John and Sheeba Steelman, Summer and Jason Collins, Kenny Hayes and Ashley Anthony;
Great grandchildren: Justin Hayes, Megan Leviner, Devin Rickus, Makenzie Hayes, Noah, Sawyer, Sage and Jemma Collins, Madelyn and Meredith Bolick, and Shelby Steelman;Very special friend: Betty McAlister; Siblings and spouses: Frank and Maxine Steelman of Hardin, Clyde and June Steelman of Florida, Betty Hongisto of Stanley, Faye and Bud Costner of Bessemer City, and Reesa Steelman of Lincolnton; brother-in-law: Edward Picklesimer of Stanley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Mary P. Steelman; sister, Gaynelle Clemmer; brothers, Thomas, John and William Steelman.
Visitation will be held at Dallas Funeral Home on Friday, February 11th, 6:30 until 8:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 12th, 2:00 p.m. at Hardin Baptist Church with Revs. Fred Morrison, Wes Brown and Summer Collins officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hardin, NC.
