Ralph Eugene Summey Jr.

September 1, 1925February 6, 2018

Dry witted and entertaining were two special attributes of Ralph Eugene Summey Jr., 92, who went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 after a brief illness.

Ralph left this world with a sweet, peaceful spirit and was a joy to take care of.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. Ralph’s passion was being a dairy farmer (Summey Dairy) for most of his life and was privileged to serve the Dallas and surrounding communities by delivering milk to over 400 customers for twenty years. His family will always remember his favorite saying with laughter, “I’m going to tell you one thing…” He and his wife, Rachel loved to travel and were members of the Carolina Travel Club. Ralph had a strong faith in the Lord and was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Dallas. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memories are his children, Elizabeth Wilson and husband, Reese of Belmont, NC, Gene Summey and wife, Becky of Shelby, NC, Steve Summey and wife, Gail of Dallas, NC; brother, Bill Summey and wife, Carole of Dallas, sister, Marilyn Finger of Dallas; grandchildren, Jeremy Summey and fiancé, Danielle DiPiazza, Amanda Assell and husband, Mike, Dan Barker and wife, Lauren, Jessica Morgan and husband, Chad, Melanie Edling and husband, Richard and Tiffany Cobb; great-grandchildren, Austin Ford, Leeanna, Natalie and Emily Morgan, Silas and Naomi Assell and Elias Barker. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Rachel Summey; daughter, Kathy Cobb and two great-grandchildren, Lucas Morgan and Khaleda Assell.

A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Dallas, NC. Reverend Peter Feige and Reverend George Rhyne will preside.

A private interment will take place on Monday at Gaston Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 725 Gastonia Technology Parkway, Dallas, NC 28034.

Ralph, Jr. was married to my beloved first cousin, Rachel Hamrick Summey. My parents, Jean and Ed Hamrick loved Rachel and Ralph and their family very much. Rachel and Ralph were tremendously sweet and good. I don't know of a better, gracious, and more loving family.

I want Ralph and Rachel's children and their descendants that we are with them in spirit today and in the future.

With love and sympathy, Jim and Becky Van Dyke

A BIG MAN with a BIG Heart... I had the chance to meet Mr. and Mrs Summey in the Mid 80 when I came to work for a Company called Lutheran Family Services. Mr.and Mrs Summey were Great Supporters Of Our Programs ... It was Nothing for them to stop by the Program On Dallas-Stanley Hwy to Viisit and Share Knowledge With Both youth and Staff.... I Pray That The Almighty's Love And Comfort Surround You And Keep You During this Time Of Sorrow... Your Parents Touched Many Lives.. And showed the True Love Of God By Their Actions....

Mr. Summey was a very sweet man. I enjoyed him so much when he sat with me one Sunday at South Point Bap. Church. Although I didn't know him long, he could capture your heart. Rest in peace, you will truly be missed.
Prayers for all of the family. Love Patsy King
