

Thelma “Tootsie” Powell Hendricks, 93, of Albemarle was a woman of faith and went to be with her Lord quietly on Wednesday July 12, 2017 at Trinity Place in Albemarle. Tootsie was the daughter of an evangelist and grew up in the church. She loved her Lord and was active in the church. She loved music and enjoyed singing in the church choir. She was dedicated to her family. Tootsie helped raise her younger brothers and sisters. She loved life and laughter. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Tootsie was the daughter of the late Precious Jeanette Pope Powell and James Edward Powell. Preceding her in death are her husband of more than 60 years Fred Hendricks; sister Gladys Rhyne and brothers; Melvin, Ted and Miles Powell.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughter and son in law: Susan Hendricks Ehlich and husband Mark of Locust, NC and son Dan Marshall Hendricks of Spencer, NC. Remembering Tootsie is her sister Margo Lyles and husband Don of Cherryville and brothers Thad Powell and wife Barbara of Jacksonville, FL, J.D. Powell of Daytona Beach, FL and sister-in-law Dot Powell. Missing their grandmother are Matthew Gladden and wife Alli Miller and Ashley Eudy and husband Josh. Tootsie’s great-grandchildren are August, Zain and Nixon Eudy and soon to be born great-granddaughter Harper Gladden.
A Celebration of Life for Tootsie will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday July 15, 2017 at First United Methodist Church, 301 W. Main Street, Dallas. Pastor Caroll Flack will offer words of encouragement and hope to family and friends who gather to remember Tootsie. Active pallbearers are: Mike Carpenter, Dan Britton, Don Britton, Jack Pasour, Ben Best and Blair Hovis
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the sanctuary at the church.
Interment will be held at Gaston Memorial Park following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Tootsie’s name to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. 1st Street, Albemarle, NC 28001 or First United Methodist Church, 301 W. Main Street, Dallas, NC 28034
