Vickie, as she was called, graduated from Dallas High School in 1966 where she was a member of the Marching Band and a Majorette. She was employed by Wix Corporation, where she left and joined the US Navy for three years and was an Air Traffic Controller. After leaving the Navy, she returned to Wix Corporation, where she later retired. Vickie was a member of Gaston Baptist Church in Dallas, but later in life, attended Dallas Church of God. Vickie was a very giving and pleasant person to be around and was always smiling.
She is preceded in passing by her parents, Floyd Thomas and Edna Bryant Smith; brothers, Otha Lee Smith and Paul Thomas Smith and wife Carolyn; sister, Mary Lois Smith; sister-in-law, Juanita Smith; niece, Rita Guffie; nephew, Dennis Smith; and great niece, Marla Victoria Wylie.
Vickie is survived by her brother, Marshall “Shorty” Smith; nieces, Marsha Smith and Melissa Davis and husband Will; nephew, Brent Smith; great niece, Sarah Smith and other numerous great nieces and great nephews.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 3:30 pm on Monday, April 10, 2023 at Carothers Funeral Home Dallas. A graveside service will follow at 4:00 pm at Long Creek Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Tommy Smith will preside over the service and Matthew Shortridge will sing.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Gaston County Veterans Administration.
