In 1967, Abel married Gloria Brown, beginning a beautiful life that spanned an extraordinary 57 years. Together, they built a loving family that brought him immense pride. A successful business owner of A.J. Gonzales Mexican Restaurant. An avid sports fan who competed in the Golden Gloves and liked playing golf. He was a TV and film buff who enjoyed casinos and playing bingo. Known for his humor and charming storytelling, he had a remarkable ability to bring light into every room he entered.
Abel is survived by his wife Gloria and their children: Sonya Isom(Jody), Abel Gonzales Jr., Sophia Vasquez(Robert), Jeannette Gonzales, and Yvette Castillo(Miguel). Proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Andy Jesse Gonzales; Gabrielle, Robert Jr., and Ryan Abel Vasquez; and Katherine, Lauren, and Michael Patrick Castillo. He is also survived by his sister Rosemary Calzada(Emilio) and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his loving parents; his daughter Baby Girl Gonzales; and his siblings Richard Quevedo, Dolores Hernandez, Robert Gonzales, Jose Manuel “Mighty” Gonzales, and Jesse Gonzales.
Abel will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
A visitation for Abel will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Calvary Hill Funeral Home, with a rosary recited 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Hill Main Mausoleum North Chapel. A committal service will follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery.
