

Abner Cantu, age 75, passed away unexpectedly on August 29, 2024, at his home in Dallas, TX, surrounded by his life partner, Nichole De Coster. Abner was born on March 25, 1949, to Licurgo Cantu and Rene Toba Cantu. He was one of eight siblings and grew up in Monterrey, Mexico, where he attended school. At the age of 16, Abner moved to the United States. Later in life, he joined the Police Academy and served as a Police Officer in Dallas, TX. Abner then transitioned into the restaurant business before dedicating the last 20 years of his life as a personal assistant to the Charles Wood family, a role he performed with great care and dedication.
Abner is survived by his son, Erik; his stepchildren, Gaëlle and Sebastien; and his siblings, Jorge, Gladys, Astrid, Elaine, Kathy, and Evelina, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his son, Ivan; his brother, Lico; his parents, Licurgo and Rene; his stepfather, Manuel Pineda; and his grandparents, Apolinar and Rene Toba, and Sebastian and Dolores Cantu.
Abner found solace in the companionship of his beloved cats, his best friends Gonzo and Ray-Ray, and cherished the time he spent at the ranch, where he could connect with nature and friends. Abner was a man of strength, perseverance, and a gentle spirit. His friends and family will always remember his unwavering kindness and his attentiveness to those he loved. He was someone you could always rely on, even in the toughest of times. Most importantly, Abner loved his entire family and friends dearly.
A visitation for Abner will be held Thursday, September 5, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228. A funeral service will occur Friday, September 6, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228. A commital will occur Friday, September 6, 2024 from 11:15 AM to 11:30 AM, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228.
