Adolph Vince Salac was born February 4, 1921 in Temple, Texas. After a lengthy stay at Treemont Nursing home, he peacefully left this earth February 18th. He was preceded in death by his father, Vince Salac, and mother, Marie Manak Salac.
In early life he enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Adolph married Evelyn Frnka on November 12, 1940 and they moved to Dallas where he attended aircraft school. In 1941 he was drafted and went to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. They recommended he return to defense work. He worked for Southern Aircraft in Garland for several years, specifically working on parts for the B25 Bomber. Next he got a job as a spray painter for the Dallas Coca-Cola Bottling Company where he retired from after 37 years. After retirement he donated many years of fraternal work to the SPJST (Slovanik Benevolent Order of the State of Texas), serving as President, Vice President and House Chairman. He was also a parishioner of St. Monica Catholic Church for over 50 years.
Adolph enjoyed over 67-years of marriage with Evelyn before she passed on February 25, 2008. He is also preceded in death by six siblings: Lillian Elsik, Antonia Schiller, Emma Schneider, Annie Bartek, Ladis Salac and Bill Salac; nephew Charles David Bartek and niece Carolyn Salac.
He is survived by his “kids”, Paul & Cindy Pokladnik; “grandkids” Jordan Pokladnik and wife Melody and Allison Pokladnik Ledkins and husband Jake; nieces & nephews Shirley Kelarek, Linda Smentanka, Marie Elsik, Johnnie Elsik, Louise Hejl, Diann Bartek, Lillie Elsik, Carolyn Arrington, Victor Frnka and Jay Frnka.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 26th at St. Monica Catholic Church, 9933 Midway Road, Dallas, TX 75220 with Father Alan McDonald, celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas, TX. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday, February 25th with a Rosary starting at 7:00 pm at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy., Dallas, TX 75225. Pallbearers are Paul Pokladnik, Jordan Pokladnik, Johnnie Elsik, Dave Bartek, Billy Smentanka and Randy Petr.
