

Al R. Barbosa, born November 19, 1929, beloved father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home with his children by his side November 9, 2014. His lifelong career & retirement at the State Farm Regional Office was accompanied by devoting countless hours as a long standing member of the Knights of Columbus Council 799, a benefit society, serving as Past Faithful Navigator of the 4th Degree and Worthy Master of the 3rd Degree, and the Order of Alhambra, serving the developmentally disabled.
Al worked at the historical Adolphus and Baker Hotel in his early years as well as served four years in the Navy and 10 years in the reserves. He was passionate towards making Jesus known to those most neglected, protecting life, supporting Veterans and educating Young Americans. He was the third child of five children, the second son of Charles and Tillie Barbosa, Highland Park. Al enjoyed fishing, golfing, watching the Dallas Cowboys and going to the beach.
Al is survived by his children; David Barbosa, Greg (Vicki) Barbosa, John Barbosa, Cammy Barbosa, Laura (Chefe) Mendoza, Cynthia (Mark) Cegielski; siblings; Charles (Helga) Barbosa, Frank (Carole) Barbosa, Bertha Barbosa Friedman, Tillie Barbosa (Dick) Gold; and numerous grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Granddaughter - Michelle Sims, her kids are great granddaughter - Caitlin Robinson, great grandson - Brandon Sims; granddaughter - Sabrina Harrison and spouse – Collin Harrison, their kids are great granddaughters - Hannah Harrison- Olivia Harrison- Norah Harrison; great grandson - William Harrison; granddaughter – Rachel Frost and spouse - Jason Frost, their kids are great granddaughters – Brooke Frost- Heather Beers;
great grandson - Justus Lewis; granddaughter – Marisa Frankum and spouse – Royce Frankum, their kids are great granddaughters – Lauren Frankum - Maegan Frankum; great-grandsons - Jared Frankum - Mitchell Frankum; grandson - Rick T. Barbosa; granddaughter - Sarah Fletcher; grandson - Andrew Marvin Fletcher Jr. and his son great grandson – Alexander Marvin Fletcher; granddaughter – Cynthia Kathryn Edwards; grandson - John Thomas Edwards; granddaughters – Nicole Barbosa-Mallory Barbosa; and grandson – Gregory Barbosa Jr.
Al is also survived by his girlfriend and long time companion, Shari Lopez. Al and Shari celebrated their 25th anniversary this past July 25th, 2014. They were always a loving couple and acted like high school sweethearts. Both were devout Catholics. They both enjoyed traveling, quick summer jaunts to the beach and attending the various K of C and Alhambra functions. Shari was the “Sunshine of Dad’s Life”! He would light up when Shari walked into the room and put on a big smile. Even during his last days, Dad would smile when he heard her voice, his eyes would light up and he would hold her hand. Shari called dad “Sweet Pea”
Recitation of the Rosary will be 6:30pm Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Knights of Columbus Hall #799, 10110 Shoreview, Dallas, TX. The Funeral Mass will be 10:30am Friday, November 14, 2014 at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 2800 Valwood Pkwy, Farmers Branch TX., Father Bruce Bradley, Celebrant. Interment to follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be sent to Special Olympics or the Catholic Pro-Life Committee. Arrangements under the direction of Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home, Dallas, TX.
