

Albert B. Fenton (Al) loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and son, passed away June 21, 2017 due to a brain aneurysm while watching his favorite Texas Rangers surrounded by his wife Janey and beloved pets. When people described Al, he was always a gentleman, sweet and kind with a witty dry sense of humor. He achieved success without fanfare. He was born March 11, 1934 in Centerville, Iowa. He was the adored only son of Edwyna & Bert Fenton. He graduated from the University of Iowa and was a member of Beta Theta Pi. After graduating from U of I, Al served in the U.S. Army as a Lt. He received his officer commission and was deployed to Scofield in Hawaii. No officer housing was available, so Al and his buddies were able to live on Waikiki Beach. After transferring to the Navy, Al continued to serve his country in the Navy reserves. He was a military Judge for 12 years (JAG). He retired from the USNR in 1992 with the rank of Captain.
Al received his law degree from the University of Texas in 1961. He was a friend and mentor to young lawyers throughout his legal career. First starting his career at the Dallas City attorney’s office then working as General Counsel for Bonanza International. He went on to practice with Touchstone Bernays law firm and opened his own law practice. Al was a Judge for both Addison and Farmers Branch for over 23 years. He was a member of the Texas, American and Dallas Bar Associations for over 50 years. Al was sworn into the US Supreme Court in 1964.
As a lifelong Presbyterian, Al served as an Elder Emeritus at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church and Board Member of Exodus Ministries. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
Al married the love of his life Janey Birdwell Fenton. Al and Janey were married almost 53 years and they shared the joy of travel. Favorite destinations were Hawaii, Aspen and Europe. They shared a last river cruise to Normandy in 2014.
Al is survived by his wife Janey, much loved daughters Beth Fenton and Holly Fenton Bradley, his cherished grandson Gunner Bradley and granddaughter Tatum, and son in law Derek Bradley. Other loved family members include sister in law Pat Clark, nephew David Clark, and niece Chrystal Ainsworth.
He is preceded in death by infant daughter Amy Katherine Fenton.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 12:00 pm at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home Chapel, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy., Dallas, TX 75225.
A special thanks to Dr. Magadan and the neurology department at Southwestern Medical who were faithful in the quest for a diagnosis of AVM and thanks to his personal trainer Tim Telsneus and his speech therapist from Callier Center, Leah Sack, and Martina Salazar and family. A very special thank you to the ICU team at Presbyterian Hospital.
