Alfred William Davis was born on August 10, 1943, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was the youngest of nine children born to Arque Neal and Marie Berry Davis. After the death of his mother, his father married Fannie Taylor Allen Davis. She was a loving mother to Alfred.
Alfred committed his life to Christ at an early age. He was a member of his family’s church Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. His father was a Deacon and Alfred sang in the church choir just as his siblings had done before him. Alfred had an exceptionally beautiful bass voice. He continued his commitment to Christ at New Hope Baptist Church in Dallas Texas. There he sang in the choir and followed in his father’s footsteps when he became a Deacon of the church.
Alfred attended elementary and middle school in Oklahoma City and completed his secondary education at Douglas High School. He earned a B.S. degree in business administration from Langston University, Langston, Oklahoma in 1966. While in college he was a member of the marching band, concert band, the acapella choir, service choir, male choir, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and Phi Beta Lambda Business Organization. Alfred was a recipient of a Kerr-McGee Scholarship. He did further study at Oklahoma State University in business management.
Alfred was united in marriage with Mary Ann Prewitt on August 6, 1966, in Langston, Oklahoma. There were four children born of this union. Diane, Audrey, Fannie and Alfred. At the time of his death, they had been married for 55 years.
In 1967 Alfred was hired by the US Internal Revenue Service. He completed training in San Francisco and started his career there as an agent. He later transferred to their Oklahoma City office and after several years moved to an office in Dallas, Texas. Alfred retired in 2000 after 33 years of employment.
Alfred will be remembered by his wife, family, friends and community. He was a loving and dedicated husband and father. He created everlasting friendships and was a mentor to many. He departed life on January 12, 2022. Alfred was preceded in death by his mother, father, stepmother, twin daughters and the following siblings: Arque Neal Davis Jr., Dewey W. Davis, Wilfred Eugene Davis, Geraldine L. Anderson, Alva Davis, Velva Lee Davis – Watson and Charlene O’Neal. He leaves to cherish his memory daughter Diane Denise Thompson (Harold of Grand Prairie, Texas), son Alfred William Davis II (Kenyon of Duncanville, Texas); his grandchildren Jade Simone Thompson and Jewel Monroe Thompson of Grand Prairie, Texas, Gabrielle Coryn Davis of Duncanville, Texas; his loving sister Norva Davis Fowler of Colorado Springs, Colorado and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
