Alfreda is the second child of James and Dorothy Edney. She was born in Jefferson-Marion County, TX on October 30, 1944. She attended Victory High School in Jefferson ISD. She excelled in competitive sports playing both basketball and track/field until she graduated in 1963.
After graduation she moved to Dallas with her aunt to start the next chapter of her life in adulthood. Alfreda moved her church affiliation to St John Baptist Church in North Dallas where Rev Estelle was the pastor. Later in life she joined Bexar Street Baptist Church in Oak Cliff where she remained until her death.
Alfreda held numerous positions during her working career. She retired from the medical records department of Parkland Hospital in 2008.
After retirement she enjoyed her time with family and friends. She loved watching sports on TV (basketball, football, golf and track/field). She enjoyed playing bingo with friends, but she especially loved family gatherings where she was the life of the party. We (the family) always joked, recounted embarrassing moments and talked about the old times. She could always remember things we’d forgotten or just didn’t know about. She kept us laughing. When we were together nothing was off limits; we talked about everything (you couldn’t be timid). “THOSE WERE THE DAYS”
Alfreda leaves to remember her colorful stories, antics, and joy, her beloved daughter Charlotte Edney of Dallas County, TX. Alfreda leaves seven siblings: Dorothy Edney-Jefferson; Alyce Tuck-Dallas; Mary Edney-Dallas County; Willie Edney-Dallas; Lewis Edney-Dallas; Victor Edney-Ellis County; Jacqueline Edney-Dallas. She leaves four nieces, seven grand nieces, four nephews, six grand nephews and a plethora of cousins and friends.
Alfreda was preceded in death by her mother and father, one sister and one brother.
