Alice Brent Thornton, 90, passed away on September 5, 2026, in Rockwall, Texas. She was born on October 7, 1935, in Alexandria, Louisiana, to Kermit & Verna Jarreau. Alice was raised in Alexandria and Monroe, Louisiana, and graduated from Ouachita Parish High School. In 1957, she married Bob Thornton, and together they welcomed three children. She devoted more than 20 years to serving students and families as an educator with Dallas ISD.
Those who knew Alice will remember a life marked by steady faith and gracious warmth. She loved and served Jesus, carried herself with a smile, and greeted others with an ease that made everyone feel welcome—truly someone who never met a stranger. Whether spending time with family and friends or enjoying travel, she lived with a quiet dignity and a generous spirit that left a lasting impression on many.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Thornton; son, Bret Thornton; grandson, James Glenn Wilson; her parents, Kermit and Verna; two brothers, Joe and Alvin; and one sister, Jean.
She is survived by her two daughters, Allison Wilson and husband Glenn, and Wendee Fleck and husband Jim; grandchildren, Brooke Kennemer and husband Coyt, Corey Thornton and wife Kellie, Emily Thornton, Makenzie Thigpen, Alex Fleck, Courtney Fleck, Connor Thornton, and Hailey Fleck; great-grandchildren Logan and Kylie Thornton, Lakelyn Kennemer, and Elaina Thigpen; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228, on September 12, 2026, from 9:30 am to 10:45 am. A Celebration of Life will follow at Grove Hill Funeral Home on September 12, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Interment will take place at Rest Haven, 2500 TX-66, Rockwall, TX 75087, on September 14, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm.
Honoring Alice as pallbearers are Glenn Wilson, Jim Fleck, Alex Fleck, Coyt Kennemer, and Eric Yarborough.
