

Alma Hawthorne ,passed away peacefully on March 12, 2015 in Dallas, Texas Born in Mosier Valley (the first black community in Texas) on March 2nd, 1916; Alma was the second child of Jiley Trigg and Jeannie Nelson Trigg. Alma was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Dallas, TX and continued her education at Prairie View A & M University where she studied for two years pursuing a degree in Education. For 27 years and until his passing, Alma was married to Henry Hawthorne. To this union three children were born; Linder Nadine, Henry Norvell, and Melba "Sue". Alma was employed as a Phlebotomy Technician by the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Dallas, Texas for more than 25 years until her retirement in the early 1970's. During the 70's and 80's Alma was an active member of The Daniel Cross Elks Lodge - Lunar Temple 1210 in Dallas, Texas. She held the office of "Daughter Ruler" in 1977, State Queen in 1973 and received numerous awards and accommodations during the years of her involvement. She is currently an Honorary Life Member. For the past 47 years and until her death she was a member of Alta Mesa Park Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, currently under the leadership of Pastor Harvey L Hollmon. Alma graciously bore the title "Mother of the Church". She also served as president of Ester Circle (a missionary group) until her health declined. For many years and until her passing, Alma was a devout member of the "Silver Stars" Seniors Ministry at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship Church.
