Alma Louise McCord, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024, at the age of 93. Born on August 25, 1931, in Woodward, Oklahoma, Alma brought joy and warmth to everyone she encountered during her remarkable life.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents, Chelcie Lester and Fannie Dell Young; her sister and brother-in-law, Lawrence and Lois Pickett; her brothers, Glen and Dale Young; her husband, Kossie McCord; and her special friend, J.D. Thompson.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving children: Teresa Cherry (husband Michael), Alan Mote, Danny Mote (wife Jeanette), Becky Lopez (husband Jaime), and Tommy McCord (LeighAnn Barnes). Alma also leaves behind numerous cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, as well as countless friends and extended family members who adored her.
A dedicated and hardworking woman, often worked more than one job to support her family. She spent many years at Texas Instruments in Richardson, Texas. Later, Alma moved back to Sharon, Oklahoma, to care for her mother and worked as the activity director at Vici Nursing Home until her mother’s passing. After that, Alma returned to Texas and worked at Stan's Country Kitchen in Oak Cliff for many years.
Alma attended Hillcrest Baptist Church, where she found joy in her faith and community.
Known for her warm heart and generous spirit, Alma never met a stranger. She had an infectious sense of humor and a talent for baking, delighting many with her famous cakes, cookies and pies. She made many people happy by baking them one of her famous cakes! Whether she was comforting someone in their time of loss, caring for her loved ones, or simply sharing a laugh, Alma embodied compassion and selflessness. Her love for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchild, friends, and those in need will never be forgotten.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Buffalo Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care and Bristol Hospice for the exceptional care and kindness shown to Alma. The sweet words, “I love you,” spoken to her every night by her caregivers, brought her and her family comfort and peace.
Alma’s legacy of love, kindness, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
