Alvino Ray Herrera, born January 21, 1944, was called home on April 20, 2026. Born to Irene Caster Herrera and Alvin Herrera, he was the second of five children; Susie, Lawrence, Norma, and Steve. He grew up as a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista’s congregation and when he came of age, served his country in the United States Marine Corps. After being honorably discharged, he graduated from the University of North Texas with his BA in Psychology.
In 1981, he remarried to his wife of 42 years, Irma Estrada until her death in 2025. He served in many working positions from Trio Aviation, to being a supervisor for Toyota and Chevrolet, and finally retiring as an adult basic education teacher for ESL students. While he had many passions, often you would hear him join Irma in playing his saxophone for church and relaxation when he wasn’t working on cars in his garage or working on his short game at the golf course. During his lifetime, he became a father to Joseph from his first marriage, and to Richard and Michael in his second. Greater joy did he find through his love for his grandchildren, Dustin, Heather, Laura, Andrew, and Lucy.
Today, he is survived by his sons, Richard and Michael, along with all his grandchildren and even a great grandchild, Levi. Grateful was he of his many friends and acquaintances he had in life and his children remain grateful for the love and support everyone has shown them. May all of you be blessed for the impact you made on his life as he made in your lives.
There will be a viewing from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at Grove Hill Funeral Home with a funeral service on Thursday, April 30 at 1030 am. After the service, he will be transported to the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery where he will be honored and buried next to Irma.
