Adventurous, much beloved, super brave, generous, hard-working, extremely humorous, patient, resilient, selfless, wise and loving.
Amelia was born in San Antonio, Texas and was one of eight children, including four sisters and three brothers. At the time of her passing she was one of three remaining sisters. As a teenager, she started working in the food business as a soda jerk at Rexall drugstore where she met our father, Alex Saucedo who was a cook at the same drugstore. After a year of dating, they were married.
Her primary career was in the food business; she was a lifelong waitress and loved her work. She loved serving people and making them happy. She had many call parties who would wait up to an hour to be seated in her station, because they knew they would get excellent service and be entertained as well.
She married in 1959 to our father Alex; they packed up their family and moved from San Marcos to Dallas. Amelia was a loving, and dedicated mother of three children, including two daughters and one son. Her son, Alex, Jr. passed away in March 2011 as a result of a motorcycle accident. She had three grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren as well as six God children.
Mom loved having a house full, all cousins and friends were welcome to our home where mom made sure everyone was well fed, felt comfortable and had a safe place to sleep.
They divorced in 1970, and our father passed away in 2016.
Mom loved to drive fast and loved her sports cars. She bought her first one from our dad. It was a Navy blue, 1965 Ford Mustang. From that point on, she was hooked on Mustangs. When Ford released the Shelby Cobra similar to the one that Farrah Fawcet drove, she had to have one. She was a life-long Dallas Cowboys fan and loved watching the Cowboy games. She would stand in front of the T.V. watching the game screaming and yelling and cheering them on.
She loved to play cards, bingo and party with her compadres and comadres. She was a great poker player and would beat everyone out of their money. All in good fun! She loved to go dancing. After getting off of work she would change into her dancing clothes which she had specially made so that when she danced her dress would swirl around and show her legs. After so many years of waitressing she had calves like a runner!
After retiring, she started working part-time for a home-health care company. She loved helping homebound elderly people. She would provide company and help them with light household chores, meals and running errands. She also volunteered her time and companionship at a nursing home. Mom loved going to church on Sundays. She was friendly, compassionate, feisty. No one was a stranger.
We would like to thank the nurses and nurses-aides who cared for our mother at Lindan Park Skilled Nursing facility. Pat, Naromi, "G", Salome and many others, who took such great care of our mother when we could not be there with her 24/7. We will always be grateful for their compassion and care. We could not have done it without them.
Mom always said "Life is for the Living" and we will try to honor that. We love you mom and miss you greatly.
