Amelia Marie Brigida Maggiotta was born on September 3, 1912 in Brooklyn, New York, to Michael Brigida and Lucia Potenzieri. She was the youngest of fourteen children raised in New York. At a young age, “Amy” was such a wonderful dancer, a ballerina, that she was invited to join the Ballet Russe Troop in New York.
She married Vicenzo “Jim” Maggiotta in April 1944 and they moved to Dallas, Texas to raise their family. She and her husband, Jim, owned Anchor Seafood Company, which began distributing fresh seafood to restaurants all over the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex from the 1950’s, until they retired.
Amy loved to cook Italian food and entertain family and friends. She was a member of the Lady Elks Club and enjoyed playing slots at the casinos. Amy was also a woman of faith. She was raised Catholic and a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Dallas before later attending St. Bernard Catholic Church. Her faith is what kept her strong during her battles with cancer. She was a three time cancer survivor! This faith also made her a fiercely independent woman. In the late 80’s when Jim passed, she continued to live on her own until this past spring. This was our “Meema.”
On Saturday, July 2, 2016, Amelia Maggiotta was called Home, at the age of 103! She was greeted in Heaven by her parents, all thirteen of her siblings, her loving husband of 44 years, Jim, her son James, two sons-in-law: Vincent Rodnite & Willis Chapman & granddaughter Linda Jordan.
Her life and legacy will continue to be remembered and celebrated by her daughters: Lucille Rodnite of Houston, Barbara Stout and her husband Jerry of Richardson; grandchildren: Amelia McGuire and her husband Lincoln “Linc” of Houston, Valerie Rodnite and her partner Ellen Lovelace of Dallas, Rebecca Flake and her husband Wade of Lubbock, and Christopher Stout of Mesquite; great-grandchildren: Daniel and Vincent McGuire, Leila and Autumn Flake, Blaine, Thomas and Sonny Stout.
