Amy was born on June 20, 1971 in Caguas, Puerto Rico. Shortly after her birth, Amy moved with her family to the Lakewood neighborhood in Dallas, Texas. She attended Robert E. Lee Elementary, J.L. Long Junior High, Woodrow Wilson High School, and Dallas Academy, where she graduated in 1990. Amy remained lifelong friends with many of her classmates who remember her for having a generous spirit, big heart, and infectious laugh.
Amy Jo loved to travel! She especially enjoyed visiting the wineries of Napa Valley – she would start planning her trips there months in advance. It brings us comfort and joy to know that Amy was able to mark visiting Hawaii off her bucket list this past March!
Amy was a huge Dallas Mavericks supporter! Going to games and cheering on her favorite player, Dirk Nowitzki, made her heart happy. She was a regular at the local Starbucks where the baristas knew her order (grande coffee frappuccino!) as soon as she pulled up. Amy was also Rod Stewart’s biggest fan, adorning her walls with cherished autographed photos. She was looking forward to seeing him live for the 12th time next month.
Amy was a member of Grandview Baptist Church in Mesquite, Texas where she attended service every Sunday that she could. She volunteered at Vacation Bible School in the summers and had been planning what candy to bring and which costume to wear to Trunk or Treat this Halloween. Amy Jo also made sure her fellow parishioners never went thirsty by keeping the church fridge stocked with an assortment of sodas - always!
Amy was a bright light who will be missed beyond words. How fortunate we are to have had her here on earth for as long as we did and to have played a part in a life so fully lived. Amy Jo was the epitome of YOLO (you only live once) and we could all learn from her joyful, enthusiastic example!
Amy is preceded in death by her father, Emory Murray, Jr.; her brothers Clinton and Nathan Murray; her grandparents Emory Sr. and Marguerite Murray, and Emma and Forrest Faulkner; her uncle, Forrest Faulkner, Jr.; her aunt, Jo Armstrong; and her cousins Beth Faulkner, Carolyn Lott, and David Armstrong.
Amy is survived by her mother, JoAnn Murray, and her sister, Kayla Murray; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; her Grandview family; and countless friends.
