Angel Matias was raised in Cienega de Flores along with his seven siblings where he worked at his parents’ restaurant. After he received his education in Mexico, he served in the Mexico Military as a Marching Officer for one year.
He married Ma. Angelica on April 21, 1957 in Mamulique, N.L Mexico and the couple had five children. He was a Semi-Truck Driver at Convoy Servicing Company where he worked for more than 42 years. In his spare time Angel Matias enjoyed being a member of Knights of Columbus for over 30 years. One of his favorite pastimes was traveling to Mamulique N.L. Mexico to visit and watch over his beloved ranch named Rancho San Pedro in honor of his late father. He loved to dance and listen to music such as rancheras and cumbias. His favorite restaurant to eat with his wife was El Fenix where he always ordered cheese enchiladas.
Being an enthusiastic storyteller, he described his time growing up in Mexico, how he migrated to the United States in 1955 and how he overcame every obstacle he encountered. Spending time with his family and friends was important to him. Ensuring that his family was always taken care of was his joy and happiness.
His family and friends will always remember him by his nickname Chato. He was resilient, strong and dedicated to his inner strive to always be productive. His laugh was contagious and brightened our times with him. Forever in our hearts, he will be remembered as a wonderful and loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
